Dogs are People Too!

Good Morning to All!

That sounds rather strange as I usually do my posts at night. Anyway, I didn't have a chance to do my post last night, and besides, I wanted to try and get some pictures from our local Animal Shelter. I succeeded, but as I am not a very good photographer, they didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. Anyway, I'm doing this for the purpose of hopefully getting the attention of some of the "bloggers" around our area. Maybe they need a sweet companion. I know I have missed my 4-legged baby tremendously since she passed away in 2003. Her name was Taffy and she was 17 years old.

The Animal Shelter didn't have many, which is a good thing. The only animal they had that was scheduled for Euthanasia was a cat. The "care-taker" said the cat was really wild and would "claw your eyes out". He also had two dogs that he was waiting on the owners to come and claim them. He told me that since the Animal Shelter is so small, he could only give a maximum of two weeks before he had to "lay the animals down", so I hope that the "right " people will see this blog and decide to check the shelter out for an addition to their families. The dogs I saw were adorable. I even stuck my hand in the cages and petted them (except for the cat.) Here are the pictures.

Ok, I don't think I'll ever get the hang of placing pictures. Anyway, the first little dog is a terrier mix and is as sweet a can be. The second is a border collie. She's a nice dog, but a little skiddish, ok, a lot. The care-taker said when she first came in she was friendly, but someone came and got her, kept her for a while, then brought her back and she has been skiddish since. This black dog is really a very friendly dog. That loves to be petted. I worry. Most of the dogs in here are large dogs, and a couple of small ones. Do you see a pattern? I think this one was my favorite. I liked them all, but this one stood out for me. He was an Australian Shepherd with light gray spots and the icy blue eye. I can't remember if he had the one blue and one brown, I think so, but I'm not sure. I was taken aback by his coloring. He was also very friendly. I wish I could adopt him, but hubby says NO MORE PETS. Except for the stray cats that hang around to be fed. (They are supposed to keep the mice and snakes down, but I don't think I've ever seen them hunt. Again, I apologize for the photography. I used a digital camera but I shake pretty bad, hence the blurry pics. If you live in this area, Please stop by the shelter before going to a pet store, these animals didn't asked to be abandoned, or mistreated. They want love and affection just like a child would. I have mixed feelings about this. I hope to make this a weekly post, but of course that depends on the animals retrieved and adopted. As Comanche is not a very big town, there isn't much variety of animals. There was also a dachshund, but I couldn't get a good or even a bad picture of it because it was too hyper and wouldn't be still. Anyway, it was a regular red dachshund. A little trivia to go along with this dog. It took me forever to spell it, and I had to look it up. I never realized it was a German-bred dog. I guess I should have know from the spelling, or would have if I would have known how to spell it.
Next time, I will try and do better on my photography. Pictures or not, the point I am trying to get across, is "check out the shelter before the pet stores. These animals in the shelters more times than not are in danger of being killed, just because "no one wants them, or cares". The animals in pet stores don't have that worry. A lot of the time, the animals in the shelters are already housebroken and trained somewhat. The animals you get at a pet store is not. The animals you get at a shelter appreciate the love and attention you give them because they were lacking in that department. The animals in a pet store, don't know the difference yet. ( I may have worded that a little strange, but I don't know how to explain myself. The animals from the shelter more than likely have had attention paid to them at one time, then lost it, so they know what they are missing and would appreciate having it again. The animals in a pet store have had attention paid to them on a daily basis by the storekeepers and customers coming in to visit. PLEASE check out your local ASPCA, or animal shelter first. If we didn't go out of town so much, I would try and convince hubby to get one, but the way we go, it would not be fair to the dog.
Be sure and click on my ASPCA button (paw) on the left sidebar and help feed some animals All it takes is a click.
Have a nice day! GOD BLESS!
PJ
