Inspiration, ESL and Humor

Good Evening to All!

I am so excited tonight for a couple of reasons!

First, my blog's new look! Nessa at www.texashousewife.com fixed it up for me. Please forgive me, I've been trying to set up a link for Nessa's site, but for some reason I'm unable to do so. Y'all probably know her site anyway. She is a very well established blogger and a sweetheart. Now the only thing missing is if we could figure out how to develop a nav bar or tabs. I be happy with either. I sometimes think that my posts can tend to be "too much" at one time. I do tend to be a little too "wordy". Anyway, that's my first reason for being excited. My second is that I finally, after over a month of searching found my ESL instruction books.

Several years ago, I volunteered teaching ESL and Literacy classes for adults. I did this for almost three years, and dearly loved what I was doing. One day the head of the program I was volunteering for came in and said the owners were disbanding the project. I was left without a place to teach. I thought about my church and home, but both are out of the city limits and most of the people I taught had transportation problems and did a lot of walking. Anyway, I blew off the idea of teaching. We just got some new neighbors that cannot speak English hardly at all, so the idea came alive again.
Now the trick was to remember where I had put my books. I searched everywhere I could think of to no avail. Today, I looked in one of my old notebooks where I had looked SEVERAL times, and there they were! I talked to the neighbors in VERY broken Spanish and the husband sounded excited at the prospects of me teaching he and his wife English. So it looks like I will get back to doing what I enjoy second to most (I love learning about God most). The great thing about our neighbors is that they are Christians who aren't afraid to praise God for His blessings openly. I took a few Christmas presents to their 2 year old son yesterday, and the dad almost came to tears thanking me and praising God. He actually looked at me, shook my hand and said "God is So Good, Thank you. I thought that was really neat. Now days, you see so many people who are Christians, but like my husband, they say (it's private to me.) Well, that's all well and good, and I'm not trying to say to go out and run up to everyone you see and bombard them with scripture and tell everyone how good God has been to you, all I'm saying is that it was a breath of fresh air for me to hear those words. Anyway, that's my exciting news.

Christian Humor

A Young man was walking through a supermarket to pick up a few items when he noticed an old lady following him around. Thinking nothing of it, he ignored her and continued on. Finally, he was ready to check out but she pushed her cart immediately in front of him in the in the line.

"Pardon me," she said sweetly, "I'm sorry if my staring at you has made you feel a bit uncomfortable. It's just that you look like my son, who died recently."

"I'm very sorry," replied the young man. ; "Is there anything I can do for you?"

"Yes," she said. "As I'm leaving after checking out, can you say 'Goodbye, Mother!'? It would really make me feel much better and make my day." "Sure," replied the polite young man. As the old lady was leaving, with groceries in her cart, he called out, loudly, "Goodbye, Mother!"

Then , after he had unloaded his groceries and the checker was about to ring him up, he noticed that his total was already $137.47. "How can that be?" he asked, incredulous. "I only have just these few items." "Your mother said that you would pay for her groceries," answered the clerk!

Okay...
Even a bad example can be a learning experience. Humor happens when two worlds collide. Something unexpected has to happen that jolts you up and out of the normal life patterns and then you start laughing. Humor is the synapse between the ordinary and the surprising! Every time we laugh, we are making a leap between two worlds! And...in order to be the best mother possible...one ingredient is a well used sense of humor!

There are many verses in the Bible about Humor, Laughter and Joy. Joy being not only "glee", but also the inner joy or peace.
