Beating Laziness

Good Evening to All!

Before I get started, I want you all to know that I am basically writing this to myself. It seems that I learn more and retain more if I type it or write what it is I want to remember. It seems as though for the last couple of months, I can't seem to get enough sleep. No matter what time I go to bed or get up in the morning I'm tired. I cannot figure out why. But maybe this lesson will help me or give me the initiative I need for get up and go. Just maybe if I drill it into my head that I need to stay busy, I'm hoping my will, will take over and tell my body to stay alert and energized. "Don't know, but it's worth a try.

If you are wondering about these pictures of a bee and a humming bird, I chose them because they are both worker animals, or fowls or insects, I'm not sure what to classify them, they just stay busy. Ants make me itch to see even pictures of them. Ergo, the substitutes.

I went and had my quarterly check-up at the doctor along with blood work for my diabetes, and I received a letter that all is doing ok, thyroid, sugar, and so on as long as I keep taking my medicine like I suppose to, except now to add to my list is high cholesterol. I don't really know what that's all about. I know that having it isn't good for your heart, you are supposed to watch what you eat, which I am supposed to do anyway with diabetes, ( I have trouble in that arena), and that's about the extent of my knowledge of high cholesterol.

My trainer at Curves says I need to find out the separate numbers, HDL, LDL, and Triglycerides. So I guess I'll try and do that Monday, because all the doctor's office sent me was a form letter and told me my cholesterol was 232. Now I've gone into all that just to say this. I don't know if that has anything to do with my tiredness or not. Talking about my tiredness, subject stems from the train of thought about the title, hence "Beat the Laziness". I can't do anything without feeling like I want to fall asleep. All I did today from 10am -2:30pm stood on my feet serving food for our take-out Bar-B-Que Dinners Fund Raiser at the church. After that I came home, changed clothes, and ate then went to Curves to work out. Got home from there about 3:30, sat down in my chair til 5:00, got up and heated hubby up his dinner (I brought him home a BBQ dinner from church, and that's all. I can hardly keep my eyes open! I am basically NOT a lazy person, I have NO ENERGY for some reason.

NOW, ON WITH THE SHOW! (In this case the Bible Seeds Devotional)

Today's Seed: "Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider it's ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores it's provisions in summer and gathers it's food at harvest."
Proverbs 6:6-8

You know, a thought just came to mind. This verse, although knowingly is the subject of labor, could also apply to saving money. For some reason while typing this, the thought crossed my mind about "seasonal labor". For example I know a person who does seasonal work, and makes quite a good sum of money while he is working. The problem is he may work solid for a month or two, then be laid off for 4 or 5 because of weather or no job sites, this type of thing. He has NEVER been able to save his money. He would get his pay and buy all kinds of neat things that could have been done without, then when the skimpy times came they (his family) would suffer and have to rely on others. Of course they would get paid back, but just the same if he would have saved his money in the first place, this would not have to be.

OK, back on track! Sorry, rambling thoughts.

If you are a typical woman, with a long to-do list, it's likely that physical laziness is not a problem for you. In fact, most of us rarely slow down;. Still it is wise to consider our lives and be sure.

The writer of Proverbs suggests that we observe the ant activities to evaluate our. The ant has no commander, yet he works. He takes initiative. Do we? The ant plans for winter by storing food for the difficult times. He plans ahead. Do we? The ant works in summer. He has his priorities right. Do we?

The ant is weak yet weakness never stops him. He works continuously to get the job done. You can see thousands of ants in a mound and not one will be idle.

If physical laziness is not our problem, then we must consider if we have another kind of laziness--a laziness of attitude. This kind of laziness ignores problems because ignoring is easier.

Attitude laziness fails to instruct children about the right way to live because it's too much bother to confront them. Attitude laziness makes excuses for not witnessing or sharing what God has done in our lives with others. It makes us give in and rationalize when we know better.

Dig Deeper: The word "consider" is translated from the Hebrew word ra'ah, which means go behold and approve. it is the same word that is used in Genesis 1:4, which says that God saw that what he had created was good. Observing the ant helps us see a good way to live.

Weed & Water: An ant has at least three traits that we need to keep from developing a lazy attitude. First, an ant is patient. It may take a long time to move a morsel of food to the mound. Second, he is persistent. When his way is blocked, he never gives up. Third, the ant has courage to come above ground to face whatever dangers are present. Developing these traits into our lives will cause us to be wise like the ant.

Sprout and Scatter: Our attitude laziness can affect the people around us without us ever a saying a word because they observe us. They will know we have a lazy attitude when they see bitterness, negativism, dishonesty, or whining. But they can learn patience, persistence, faith, and courage instead if we exhibit these traits in our activities. Just as we observe the ants, we are being observed.

T
hink about it: What attitude is causing you to be lazy?

List some ant-like traits that you need.

Prayer Pot: Lord, convict me of any areas of laziness....

Take-Away Idea: Most of us are lazier in mind than in body.
Good Night to All and May God Bless!

Love and Prayers,

I am so thankful you write in the evenings whereas I write in the mornings. I always have your devotions to look at either before or after I write mine. Therefore, I can get my lift from your words. It does not sound like you are lazy to me. It sounds like you may not be getting real rest when you sleep or perhaps a vitamin B12 deficiency (this is what my sister found out she had). Just keep up your MD appts and do what they say! God Bless you for your work and your life! By the way--we got snow in Georgia!!! It is so beautiful and has been many years since this has happened.
