Two Versions, Two Different Vibes

Good evening to All!

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Psalm 100. Tonight's "inspiration" is taken from Daily Inspirations from the NIV, is Psalm 100:3-5.

Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us,and we are his;
we are his people , the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

I love the King James way of wording it.

Know ye that the LORD He is God;
it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise:
be thankful unto him and bless his name.
For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting;
and his truth endureth to all generations.

First of all, I would like to state that I feel that in this instance the NIV and the KJV are not really in accordance with each other. They may be "similar" but to me there is still a considerable difference in the meanings of some of the wording. I will concede that the majority of the verses sound like they mean the same thing, but the last two lines to me lose a lot in the translation from the King James to the NIV.

NIV: For the LORD is good and his love endures for ever.
KJV: For the LORD is good his mercy is everlasting.

love and mercy are 2 different things to me. Mercy comes WITH LOVE. God loves us so he shows us mercy.

The last sentence :

NIV: his faithfulness endures through all generations
KJV: his truth endureth to all generations.

Again, faithfulness and truth are two different things.
As an example a person can be faithful, and not be truthful all the time.

God is faithful all the time. We can count on him to be there when we need him. He is an "ON TIME GOD".

God is truth. He cannot lie. Faithfulness and truth are two different attributes.

As well as I like the New International Version for it's easy reading, I am always careful to watch out for inconsistencies between it and the King James Version. Please be vigilant and watch for these things also. The Living Bible is the same way. We must always keep an eye out for little things because they may not seem like much at the time, but one day, if you are quoting something to someone who does not know the Bible, you might misquote and confuse the person who you are trying to teach. These Bibles are ok when used in CONJUNCTION WITH the KJV, but not alone. Check me out. I cannot remember the exact verse, but it's the one where the disciple ask Jesus how many times we are supposed to forgive someone who has wronged us. According to the KJV Jesus says 70 times 7, meaning 490 times a day (or too many to count, as many as it takes) () my words), but according to the LIVING Bible, its 77 times, which is almost doable. Needless to say, I would take the KJV version over the Living Bible's version of that verse. There are many inconsistencies between these Bibles. One day, when you're curiosity is up, and you aren't busy with work, children or other things, If you have both versions take them out and compare. There is even a whole passage omitted from the Psalms in the Living Bible. I would have to go back and look myself to find out which one. It's been quite a while since I read the Living Bible.

Now one last tid-bit of a thought. We are referred to as sheep of his pasture. Have you ever thought about how gullible sheep are? I bet if one walked off a cliff, the flock would follow. It is for this reason we need to be on guard and let Christ shine through to others. When we do, and others see us, then they will do the same. Or the opposite is true. I know from experience, I can be in the best mood, laughing and talking with a very positive attitude. My husband can walk in the door in a bad mood and say ONE negative thing, or start complaining, and my good mood and positive attitude go right out the window. If I go to the store or see someone after being around my negative husband then they become negative. Just like a chain reaction. We are sheep. We need to be led by our pastors, positive people and Christ within us.

Don't forget to comment or follow or even both to enter into my Book Give-Away! Dead-line is March 27th. When you comment, please be sure to mention the Give-Away so I'll know you want to enter. Thanks!

Good Night to All and May God Bless!

This is so true about the gullibility of sheep. Being God's sheep though also opens us up to the lessons that he bestows on us and following in his footsteps, great post.

Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest!
