LEARN TO DISCERN

Good Evening to All!

Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding...then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. (Proverbs 2:3-5 NKJV)

Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up they voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt though understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. (KJV)

Discernment is something we can expect as we grow closer to God. It allows us to penetrate the surface of a thing and see into the deep areas of it. Things are not always the way they appear to be, so discernment is a valuable thing to have. If we possess a discerning mind and heart, we will avoid a lot of trouble. I encourage you to pray for discernment on a regular basis.

If we make our decisions according to the way things look, what we think, or how we feel, we will make a lot of unwise decisions. Something may appear to be good, yet deep down inside you have a feeling that you need to be cautious and not go forward with it. If that is the case, then you need to wait and pray some more, asking God to lead you by His Spirit by giving you discernment in your spirit. Never do anything if you don't have peace about it or it just doesn't fit right in your spirit.

Our verse for tonight encourages us to understand the fear of the LORD. Being careful not to go against what you sense in your heart is you practicing the fear of the LORD. It is displaying reverence for what you believe He is showing you even though your mind may not understand it all. Learning to be led by the Spirit is learning to develop and respect the way God often speaks, which is through discernment, so continue praying and practicing in this area.

God's Word For You Tonight: Don't make decisions according to mental knowledge alone. Do an internal check and see what discernment wants to say to you.
******************************************************* I can't help but love the way the King James Version brings out the urgency of this verse. We must be serious enough about find the truth and knowledge of God and realize that it is more valuable than silver and want it so badly that we search for it as we would for hidden treasures.

1 Corinthians 2:14 explains that the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned, and Hebrews 5:14 says strong meat belongs to them that are of full age (more knowledgeable of the WORD), even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

The Amplified version explains Hebrews 5:14 in this manner. But solid food is for full-grown men, for those whose senses and mental faculties are trained by practice to discriminate and distinguish between what is morally good and noble and what is evil and contrary either to divine or human law.

Discernment goes beyond seeing with our eyes, or hearing with our ears. The closer we become with God , the easier it will be to feel His Spirit talking with us. Discernment comes from our spirit. It is the conversing between the Holy Spirit and our spirit. It is when we can just tell when something is right or wrong because of the leading of the Holy Spirit. It takes focusing on God and listening when the Holy Spirit is communicating with us. It is something we feel in our spirit. discernment is not something you learn in a book, or are "taught". It is something you learn only through focus, and listening to God. It starts with beginning a relationship with God, and delving into His Word. The more you study God's Word, the closer you become to Him, and the more you focus on Him and His Spirit. Before you know it you will be able to discern the different feelings and spirits of those around you.
