"IS ABORTION WRONG?"

Good Evening to All!

Before I get started on this post, let me say that I know there are more than likely a lot of "pro-choice" people out there in the blogosphere. As a lot of you know, I have never been able to have children, so "yes" this subject is very important to me. I guess for one reason (other than the obvious one) many years ago, I had a "so-called friend who had four children and ended up getting pregnant again. Her husband was just starting out in the military and they were very strapped for money all the time. She confided in me one day that they had decided that she would get an abortion rather than have another child. My husband and I offered to adopt the baby because we had been trying for a long time to have one and had not been able to . Anyway, she refused. She would never give me a reason, she just said that they had made their decision and that was that. I never spoke to her again.

I am not typing this as a political forum or a judgmental post. I am typing this from a Biblical and human interest stand point only, so please don't get angry and start judging me. I had prayed about what to post, and when I picked up my "Hayford's Bible Handbook, this is the subject I opened the book to.

That being said, on with my post.

According to Psalm 139:13, Abortion is definitely wrong. It is the taking of a human life. The Bible shows that life begins at conception. God fashions us while we are in our mother's womb. The prophet Jeremiah and the apostle Paul were called by God before they were born according to Jeremiah 1:5; and Galatians 1:15. John the Baptist leaped in his mothers womb when the voice of Mary, the mother of the Lord Jesus was heard (Luke 1:55). Obviously children in the womb have spiritual identity.

From the moment of conception, there is a progression of development that continues through adulthood. God condemned the Israelites who were offering their children as sacrifices to the heathen god Molech. Such children were burned up in the fires of sacrifice( Lev. 20:2), offered to a god of sensuality and convenience. The same is occurring today, and by acting in this way, we are saying that human beings are not worth anything. This doesn't say much for us as a society.

The Bible is not more specific on the matter of abortion because such a practice would have been unthinkable to the people of God. for instance, when Israel was in Egypt, a cruel Pharaoh forced the Israelites to kill their newborn babies. In the Bible, this was looked upon as the height of cruel oppression (Exodus 1:15-22). The idea of killing their own children would have been detestable. All through the Old Testament, women yearned for children. Children were seriously considered a gift from God. Women prayed not to be barren. How could a righteous woman turn against her own children to destroy them? Abortion is not only unthinkable, it is also the height of pagan barbarity.

We are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made! Below is a list , used by permission, from the National Right to Life Website that shows the development of a fetus in the womb:

Day 1: Fertilization: all human chromosomes are present; unique human life begins.
Day 22: Heart begins to beat with the child's own blood, often a different type than the mother's.
Week 3: By the end of the third week the child's backbone, spinal column and nervous system are forming. The liver, kidneys and intestines begin to take shape.
Week 5: Eyes, legs and hands begin to develop.
Week 6: Brain waves are detectable: mouth and lips are present; fingernails are forming.
Week 7: Eyelids and toes form; nose is distinct. The baby is kicking and swimming.
Week 8: Every organ is in place, bones begin to replace cartilage, and fingerprints begin to form. By this week, the baby can begin to hear.
Week 9 and 10: Teeth begin to form; fingernails develop. The baby can turn his head and can frown. The baby can hiccup.
Week 10 and 11: The Baby can "breathe" amniotic fluid and urinate. Week 11 the baby can grasp objects placed in its hand; all organ systems are functioning. The baby has a skeletal structure, nerves and circulation.
Week 12: The baby has all of the parts necessary to experience pain, including nerves, spinal cord and thalamus. Vocal cords are complete. The baby can suck its thumb.
Week 14: At this age the heart pumps several quarts of blood through the body every day.
Week 15: The baby has an adult's taste buds.
Month 4: Bone marrow is now beginning to form. The heart is pumping 25 quarts of blood a day. By the end of month 5 the baby will be 8-10 inches in length.
Week 17: The baby can have dream (REM) sleep.
Months 5 and 6: The baby practices breathing by inhaling amniotic fluid into its developing lungs. The baby will grasp at the umbilical cord when it feels it. Most mothers feel an increase in movement, kicking and hiccups from the baby. Oil and sweat glands are now functioning. The baby is now 12 inches long or more, and weighs up to one and a half pounds.
Months 7 through 9: Eyeteeth are present. The baby opens and closes his eyes. He/She is using four of the five senses (vision, hearing, taste and touch.) He knows the difference between waking and sleeping and can relate to the moods of the mother. The baby's skin begins to thicken, and a layer of fat is produced and stored beneath the skin. Antibodies are built up, and the baby's heart begins to pump 200 gallons of blood per day. Approximately one week before the birth, the baby stops growing and "drops," usually head down, into the pelvic cavity.

The above information was given strictly as "food for thought", not to spark any debates. I just wanted to get the information about what the Bible truly said about abortions and also use the little time chart for "human interest" points.

PJ,

This was the best blog entry I have ever read on abortion. I especially appreciate the descriptions of the physical development of the baby in the mother's womb beginning with conception on.

I REALLY appreciate the kind spirit you exhibited throughout this posting. You have set an example of kindness and grace we all should follow.

I cannot understand how difficult it was for you to write this entry, but all I can say is that the Lord REALLY blessed your efforts. I am sure He will bless you for stepping out by faith to write this entry.

Well done, my friend.

To God be the glory,
Rob

Hi,

I'm here because of your BlogFrog post. I just wanted to say AMEN!

Also, I am so sorry that those folks didn't let you adopt their baby. How sad. :(

The one comfort that we can take in this is that these precious babies, although no longer alive on this earth, live eternally in the arms of a Father Who loves them completely. No harm can ever come to them, either by human hands or by the evil one. This thought is how I survived the loss of my babies (1 stillbirth, 3 miscarriages).

Someone tried to plant doubt about this in my mind and heart and nearly drove me insane with her words, but I am totally convicted that it is absolutely true...the babies, all babies, go to Heaven when they die. They are with Him, where we strive to be some day.

Thank you so much for your post!

Your sis in Christ,
Suz (celticmama36)
