God, The Help of Those Who Seek HIM

Good Evening to All!

I lift up my eyes to the hills---
where does my help come from?

My help comes from the LORD,
the maker of heaven and earth,

He will not let your foot slip--
he who watches over you will not slumber.

indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
Psalm 121:1-4

The LORD watches over you---the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all harm--
he will watch over your life;
the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121:5-8

We should be mature enough in our faith that we do not run to somebody else every time we need to know what to do in a certain situation. I am not implying that it is wrong to go to people we feel are wiser than we are to ask for a word of counsel or advice, but I do believe it is wrong to go to people too often. Having someone give us advice is not necessarily a problem; the problem comes when we seek man rather than God. God is a jealous God. (see James 4:5, and Deuteronomy 4:25), and He wants us to ask for His advice. After all, He is the all knowing, ever present God, who sees all and knows every thing about you and me. He knows our past, our present and our future. Therefore He is best equipped for telling us the correct advice we seek.

It is important to clearly make up our hearts and minds that we will seek God FIRST, as the psalmist did in Psalm 121:1, 2. God wants to guide each one of us not just pastors or ministers, but everyone who trusts HIM.

I encourage all too seek a balance in this area and to get away from seeks others opinions if you have a consistent habit of doing so. We must all discipline ourselves to go to God first, and let HIM choose whether He wants to speak to us or use the counsel of other believers to clarify things for us.

Goodness! I am SO guilty of doing this. I'm am constantly asking other people's opinions. I do pray about things, but if I don't get an answer as soon as I think I should, I'll break down and go to a friend. Granted, they are fellow church friends, but still, I should leave it up to God whether He wants to use them or not. Just because they are Christian, doesn't mean they will have the right answer that God wants me to hear. I know this in my heart, now if I could just learn to put it into action. I hope this has helped someone in some way. I know it spoke to me.

Good Night to All and May God Bless!
